Testimonies: I want the fairy – Part 1

Bosco's Bridal Fashion Show 180

As a child I remember myself being caught by a teacher not paying attention in class. I was caught sketching a wedding gown in my notebook with doodles of the wedding details. It’s every girl’s dream to walk down the aisle wearing the beautiful white gown with a very long trail. Weddings are indeed the highlight of a girl’s life.

On December of this year, someone dear to my heart is celebrating her wedding day. My aunt is getting married and I am her maid of honour. I got very excited when I heard the news. I get to help with all the preparations, from choosing the gown designs, venue searching, food tasting to writing the wedding vows name it I’m part of it. While on it, I and my aunt got the chance to talk about our dream weddings. After watching countless love stories, we have to admit that our dream weddings are somehow influenced by wedding scenes from various movies. We dream of the fireworks on the road while the bridal car in the movie “The Father of the Bride.” We also dream of having the elegant ice sculptures like those in “My Best friend’s Wedding”. We also dream of riding the white vintage car as a bridal car as seen on “Get Smart” or perhaps be brought to the wedding location via a horse or a carriage ala “Runaway Bride.” And who wouldn’t dream of Carrie Bradshaw’s Vivenne Westwood wedding gown in “Sex and the City Movie”.

After a few minutes of conversation drooling on the best movie weddings ever made, my aunt and I snapped out of it and came back to reality. I asked her again, “So what is your dream wedding?” And she answered, “Well, I simply want a fairy tale like magical day just like as I dreamt of it in my teenage years. I want it traditional yet special and somehow unique. Perhaps by the beach, I will still wear the long white gown with the long trail with a very nice updo piece. I like my little nieces to carry my trail for me. The colors should all match.”

Still can’t decide the colors so she paused and continued, “Hmmm, can’t really decide on the colors yet, green and chocolate brown is my first choice but I don’t know if purple would be nice. Butterflies should be released as I walk down the aisle.” And then she said “You know what, this is the dream wedding, most people have dream weddings but they are not able to fulfill it. However we are lucky I can live my dreams. What makes the wedding more special is that you are surrounded by family and friends that are happy for your new life. “

I was amazed at how detailed the dream wedding becomes as we prepare for it. We’re actually making the traditional dream wedding come true.

One thing in common about me and my aunt is that we want our wedding days to be really special. The long conversation we had while planning for her upcoming wedding really made me excited about my own. More than anything, I was there to listen and witness her enliven her dream wedding. The highlight of our conversation was at the end when we talked about the best part of the wedding.

“What fairy tale of a wedding would it be if the princess doesn’t have a prince charming? The most important part of the wedding is the man that is waiting for you at the end of the altar. He has to be your true love, the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. “

Most fairy tales ends in happy endings but the perfect marriage does not have an end.
