If you are one of the lucky people who has lovely, thick hair then you will not need to read this, but for the rest of us who have slightly thinner hair than we would like read on.

There are several ways to add volume to your hair. It really depends on how much time you have available to spend on it.

One of the easiest ways to add volume is to opt for curls. This adds both width and height to your hairstyle and can be achieved by using large curlers or hair tongs. If you wish to add mainly height then you could try a bun hairstyle placed high up on your head and add flowing ringlets from sections that you have left especially for this purpose., This is especially good when styling hair for a brides wedding day.

Another tip that is fast to carry out is to spray hairspray or volumizing spray at the roots of your hair whilst your head is upside down. Wait a few seconds for the product to begin to dry before standing up straight.

Likewise applying hair thickening lotion to the first few centimeters of the hair closest to your scalp and drying it with your hairdryer can add instant lift and volume.

If you have a few moments more than that to spend on adding volume then with a comb, work from the roots at back-combing your hair. It is best not to overdo this unless you are aiming for a beehive hairstyle!

Now if you have plenty of time you can go to a hairdressing salon and ask for a professional to show you how to add the volume that you want. You may well be told that by having layers added into your hair you can create a much fuller looking hairstyle that would work well for you. The hairdresser can advise you on the best products to use as well as giving you tips on how to achieve the look that you desire.

Remember too that many chemist shops and health stores now carry products especially for creating volume. Some products you massage into the hair and some you spray on.

If your hair is especially thin you may like to check that you are in good health by asking your doctor. They may even be able to give you some dietary advice that can help you or sent you to a specialist.

If you suffer from a lack of very much hair at all then you can have extensions woven into a mesh that fits invisibly on to your scalp. This method of adding volume may take some time to create but will be easy to care for and will last for plenty of time before it needs any extra attention.

Finally, a little trick to add the illusion of volume to a hairstyle is by the addition of cleverly placed hair ornaments for a special event or evening out, and by the addition of clip on extensions. You can cover the clips themselves with pretty hair jewelery.
