Bridesmaid gift ideas – Part 1
Dear Bride to be,
You are my friend and I love you dearly. I am happy to be part of your special day.
But if you give me a set of jewelry to go with the ridiculously expensive bridesmaid dress that I was forced to purchase for your wedding and will never wear again in my life, well, then you are really NOT thinking about anyone but yourself. Or maybe just how your photos will turn out if the bridesmaids arent’t wearing matching jewelry, too. Because I will have absolutely no use for those dangling copper earrings (even if it comes with a matching necklace and bracelet) after June.
If you are my friend, you will consider instead subsidizing the $150 I (and the rest of the bridal party) will also have to pay to stay over night at the glamorous inn where your wedding will be held. It is the only accommodation at your lovely, but sparsely populated locale so I will have no choice but to stay there since my presence is also required at the after-wedding brunch the next morning.
If you want to give me a gift I can use, how about reimbursing me for gas I will use driving an hour each way to your rehearsal dinner, and the tolls I have to pay along the way? Or how about chipping in for the professional updo and make up costs required for all 5 of your bridesmaids? If there were a way you could compensate for the hours I will spend waiting to cross the bridge during summer weekend beach traffic, believe me, I’d ask for it.
But the best gift you could give me is a simple thank you – for the shower, for the support, for smiling while wearing the dress with the hideous bows, for listening to you rant about the invitations or your future mother-in-law, for helping tighten the strings on your corset-topped gown.
It IS your day, but it took a lot of us to help get you pull this off. Just let us know that you recognize that, too.
