Bridesmaid dress ideas for a beach wedding – Part 5

Can you imagine anything more romantic and beautiful then a beach wedding? The hazy blue of the sky, the light sparkling off the azure waters and the golden sands make this tropical paradise the background for some amazing pictures. Nothing is more relaxing then the warm sun, the ocean breeze and the crashing of breakers on the beach.
You are not the traditional bride or you would have your wedding in a church with traditional bridesmaids dresses. The matchy matchy long flowing bridesmaids dresses that can be purchased at a bridal store do not fit into this setting. The very circumstances that make this such a unique setting (wind, sand and heat,) present some very unique problems too.
You are in a casual setting, but your wedding does not have to be a casual affair. Sun dresses would be perfect. I am not talking about Granny’s sun dress. That would be too casual for a bridesmaid. A sun dress made out of a lightweight natural fiber would blend beautifully with the setting. This is the place to show skin: legs, arms and shoulders. A wide strap, a spaghetti strap or strapless would all work beautifully depending on the bust size of your bridesmaids. Just remember to have plenty of sunscreen available. You want your bridesmaids to be cool and comfortable. Perspiration and runny make-up does not make for a glamorous photo shoot.
The length of the dress is also important. Long skirts and sand do not mix well, neither do full skirts and ocean breezes. You want the guests to focus on the ceremony, not on the girls’ skirts blowing up. An empire waist with a hip skimming knee length skirt would work best in wind and sand. A pair of strappy sandals will compliment any cute sun dress.
You are in a world of blue, green, and brown. Take a pointer from the birds and flowers in paradise. Bright jewel tones or colorful patterns for the bridesmaids dresses will fit beautifully into this environment. A tropical print would be garish in most weddings, but not here. You may not want big bright multicolor flowers or koi swimming around on the dresses, but subtle prints in turquoise, yellow or purple would be so tropical. The dresses don’t need to match, but the colors and styles should compliment each other.
Hats would detract, but a flower in the hair would be perfect.
Buying in the area you are getting married in, will guarantee that the bridesmaids dresses will be of the right weight and fabric for the climate. Be prepared to spend a pretty penny though; because you are in a tourist area.
The time has arrived for the ceremony and your bridesmaids in their colorful dresses are preceding you through the sands, making your understated white dress pop in the bright sunlight. You have the beautiful romantic beach ceremony you dreamed about.
